Arithmetic-Mean Working Frequency Measurement – Pulse-Wave Ultrasound

Testing service to determine the arithmetic-mean working frequency (fawf) of a pulse-wave ultrasonic transducer

Testing service to determine the arithmetic-mean working frequency (fawf) of a pulse-wave ultrasonic transducer,
based on the −3 dB bandwidth of its acoustic pressure spectrum, following IEC 61828 and IEC 62127-1.

  • Mounting of transducer and hydrophone in degassed, deionized water
  • Acquisition of time-domain acoustic pressure signal
  • Frequency-domain analysis using FFT with optional windowing
  • Identification of peak frequency and −3 dB bandwidth
  • Calculation of arithmetic-mean working frequency (fawf)
  • Constraint check: f₂ ≤ 3 × f₁ to ensure spectral relevance
  • Summary report with frequency data, analysis steps, and plots

  • Calibrated hydrophone (compliant with IEC)
  • High-speed data acquisition and FFT analysis tools
  • Precision positioning in water tank
  • Evaluation report with fawf result, 3 dB bandwidth frequencies
  • FFT plots
  • documentation of method and setup
