Pintip ultrasonic hydrophones (Needle hydrophones) – precision in the smallest of spaces
Pintip hydrophones, also called needle hydrophone, are specialized ultrasonic sensors for the precise measurement of acoustic signals in liquids. Due to their particularly small active diameter – usually between 0.5 and 1.0 mm – they are ideal for applications where maximum spatial resolution and minimal interference are required.
Equipped with high-quality ceramic sensor elements (e.g. PZT foil or PZT disk), pintip hydrophones (needle hydrophones) reliably detect sound fields in a wide frequency range of up to 70 MHz. This makes them ideal for high-resolution measurements in medical ultrasound diagnostics, industrial materials testing or acoustic research.
Thanks to the integrated preamplifier, standardized 50 Ohm termination and included power supply, Pintip hydrophones offer stable, low-noise signal processing – ready for use in precise measurement systems.
Whether in laboratories, test facilities or development environments: Pintip ultrasonic hydrophones stand for maximum measurement accuracy with minimum size.

The PTH-0.3-50 ultrasonic hydrophone from the piezo tip hydrophone series is the ideal solution for the precise characterization of ultrasonic fields. Thanks to its ceramic sensor element and the innovative use of a thin ceramic film, this hydrophone offers high sensitivity, an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and an impressive bandwidth of up to 50 MHz. With a sensor element diameter of just 300 µm, it also guarantees a high spatial resolution – perfect for demanding measurement tasks.
Versatile application possibilities
The PTHxx-0.3-50 pintip hydrophone is ideal for developing and testing ultrasonic transducers, for determining sound pressure, acoustic intensity and power in accordance with the IEC 61157 and IEC 62127 standards for medical ultrasonic devices and for measuring the field distribution of NDT transducers. It is particularly suitable for the detection of small ultrasonic signals with limited bandwidth or CW signals in the medium MHz range.
Whether in medical technology or non-destructive material testing (NDT) – this ultrasonic hydrophone delivers reliable results and supports you in the development of high-quality ultrasonic technologies. Thanks to its robust design and technical sophistication, it is the first choice for professionals who value quality and precision.
Using the PTH-0.3-50
The piezo hydrophones in the PTHxx-0.3-50 series impress with their robust design, simple handling and high signal-to-noise ratio. This makes them ideal for measurements under difficult EMC conditions. Thanks to the size of the active element and the frequency range, the hydrophones are particularly suitable for measuring sound emission in the following applications:
– Ultrasonic devices for cosmetic purposes
– Ultrasound therapy devices
– Ultrasound Doppler devices (e.g. vascular and fetal Doppler)
– Cosmetic HIFU devices (e.g. for lipolysis)
(Note: When measuring HIFU signals, care must be taken to avoid cavitation, as this can lead to permanent damage to the hydrophone).
Technical highlights
– Integrated preamplifier: Enables direct connection to an oscilloscope with a 50 ohm terminating resistor.
– High interference immunity: Ideal for use under difficult EMC conditions.
– Compact design: Perfect for precise measurements in demanding environments.
